Where will my massage session take place?
Your massage will take place in a warm, comfortable, and quiet room. Soft music may be played to help you relax. You will lie on a table especially designed for your comfort.
Who will perform the massage?
Your session will be conducted by a trained professional who has received the proper education and is licensed by the State.
Must I be completely undressed?
Most massage techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed to their comfort level however they are properly draped/covered. You decide how much clothing you prefer to wear for your own comfort.
Will the massage therapist be present when I disrobe?
Your massage therapist will leave the room while you undress, relax on the table and cover yourself with a clean sheet.
What parts of my body will be massaged?
You and your therapist will discuss the desired outcome of your session. This will determine which parts of your body require massage. A typical full-body session will include work on your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck and shoulders. You will not be touched on or near your genitals (males or females) or breasts (females).
Will I be covered during the session?
You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be exposed.
Will lubricant be used?
A light oil, lotion, or gel may be used to permit your muscles to be worked without excessive friction. The lubricants hydrate the skin and are readily absorbed.
What will the massage feel like?
It depends on the technique used in the type of therapy session chosen. Your session may start with broad, flowing strokes that will help to calm your nervous system and relax muscle tension. As your body relaxes, the pressure will gradually be increased to relax specific areas and relieve areas of muscle tension. If you feel any discomfort, let your massage therapist know immediately, so that another technique can be used. You receive the greatest benefit from massage when your body is not resisting.
How long is the session?
The average session lasts about one hour. There are options of 90 minute or 30 minute sessions available as well. Always arrange time for relaxing before and after the session.
What should I do during the massage session?
Make yourself comfortable. Your massage therapist will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout your session. Many people just close their eyes and relax completely. Feel free to ask your therapist questions about your massage.
How will I feel after the massage?
Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains caused by tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, greater productivity which can last for days.
What are the benefits of massage?
Massage can help release chronic muscle tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscle tissue, improve posture, and reduce blood pressure.
Are there any medical conditions that would make massage inadvisable?
Before you begin your session, your massage therapist will ask some general questions about your health. It is very important that you discuss any health problems you are experiencing and any medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, it is strongly advised that you ask your doctor for written recommendation for massage before you begin massage therapy.
